Le mappe del campoMaps of the field dieci argomenti · venti pagine · i conteggi vivi di OpenAlexten topics · twenty pages · the live counts of OpenAlex

A keyword search gives back a list ordered by citations. These pages give back the shape of a field: which strands exist, how much they weigh, where the recent frontier lies and where the founding works are — and, beside each one, in which countries that research is actually done. For each of the ten topics there are two pages: the map in three dimensions and the geographic chart.

In quali lingue cerchiamo, e perchéThe languages we search in, and why

For us language is not an obstacle: it is a great opportunity. We take scientific work in any language and we favour high quality, whatever the country of production and whatever the language. For this species English, Spanish and Portuguese are three primary languages — not one language and two translations: the alpaca is an Andean animal, and much of its clinical and husbandry literature is written in Puno, Lima, Arequipa and in Brazil.

Measured on 19/09/2026 across the thirteen candidate areas: with the English phrases alone the field amounts to 13 610 works; with Spanish and Portuguese it becomes 16 496 — +2 886. Inside the ten maps actually built  55 works out of 1751 are found by no English phrase.

What we add: every work stays in its original language — we do not replace it with a translation — and we make it available in Italian and in English as well. It is the same model as the records of the series, which carry the «Original title» beside the translation.

How the gain is measured: we count the works that no English phrase finds in title or abstract and that at least one Spanish or Portuguese phrase does find. The measure is made on the text, not on the language metadata field: that field lies — the whole Spanish archive of Archivos de Medicina Veterinaria is marked «English».

I tre ambiti che NON hanno una mappa, e perchéThe three areas with NO map, and why

The series has thirteen areas; the maps are ten. Three are left out, and the reason is written here rather than left silent: an unexplained absence reads as an oversight.

Di quali animali si parla, e di quali noWhich animals this is about, and which not

New World camelids only: alpaca (Vicugna pacos), llama (Lama glama), vicuña (Vicugna vicugna) and guanaco (Lama guanicoe). Dromedary and Bactrian camels are excluded, deliberately: digestive physiology and pharmacokinetics do not transfer between the two groups, and it is the same exclusion the chapters of the collection declare. A chapter written on the dromedary that reads as though it were about alpacas is a mistake this house has already paid for.

Come si cerca: prima il filtro delle quattro specie, poi il tema — (alpaca OR llama OR …) AND (frasi del tema). How the search works: the species clamp in AND, the topic in OR — (alpaca OR llama OR …) AND (topic phrases). The topic phrases alone would net half of veterinary science; the exact intersectional phrases alone («gastrointestinal parasites in alpacas») net six works.

Come sono fatte queste pagineHow these pages are made

Nothing was written from scratch. The three-dimensional maps are built by the house engine mappa-letteratura — collection from OpenAlex, abstracts completed from Semantic Scholar, relevance sifting done by the model, communities by Louvain. The geographic charts are built by campo-core/geo_build.py, the same world map as the «maps of the field» packages. Ours are the species clamp in the filter, the dress, the bilingualism and the language measurements.

Generated on 19/09/2026. The chart counts are live: taken from OpenAlex at generation time, and bound to change. The relevance sift is not deterministic: two runs on the same topic remove a different number of works. The number to quote is the one written here, with its date.
